Leading FDA Is an Impossible Job Right Now. Heidi Overton Could Still Do It Well
STAT reported that Heidi Overton will not get a Senate vote before the midterms.

A MedPage Today commentary argues that attitude and temperament matter in choosing an FDA commissioner and says nominee Heidi Overton could do the job well if confirmed. The writer pointed to Overton’s cooperative tone and respectful demeanor at her confirmation hearing, and her stated commitment to law, science and process. The commentary also noted that she has not managed a large, complex organization and has a narrow range of prior work experience.
The writer said Overton would need approval from the Senate committee and the full Senate. The commentary said the confirmation process cannot begin until November 9, when the Senate returns from its pre-election recess. STAT reported that Overton will not get a vote before the midterms.
