Survodutide cut weight by up to 9.8% in adults with diabetes and obesity
In the 76-week trial, gastrointestinal side effects led 18% of participants in each survodutide dose group to stop treatment.

Survodutide reduced body weight in adults with type 2 diabetes and overweight or obesity in the phase 3 SYNCHRONIZE-2 trial, according to findings presented at a European diabetes meeting and published in The New England Journal of Medicine. In the treatment-regimen analysis, participants lost an average of 8.2% of their weight on 3.6 mg and 9.8% on 6 mg at 76 weeks, compared with 3.9% with placebo. Healio reported a separate analysis estimating weight loss of 10.4% and 13.1% with the two doses, compared with 3.1% with placebo.
Gastrointestinal adverse events were reported by 72.8% of the 3.6 mg group and 77.7% of the 6 mg group, compared with 38.6% of the placebo group. These events led 18% and 17.9% of participants in the survodutide groups to stop treatment, compared with 1.2% in the placebo group. Boehringer Ingelheim said future trials will use more flexible, patient-centered dose increases to improve tolerability.
