ADA and EASD issue joint type 2 diabetes management report
The joint report updates guidance for type 2 diabetes care in non-pregnant adults, including glucose-lowering medicines and healthy behaviors.

The American Diabetes Association and European Association for the Study of Diabetes issued a joint consensus report on managing type 2 diabetes in non-pregnant adults. The 2026 report was published simultaneously in Diabetes Care and Diabetologia, the organizations said. Their partnership has produced guidance since 2006, and the previous update was in 2022.
The report includes an updated algorithm for using glucose-lowering medicines alongside nutrition and other behavioral interventions. It also sets out an updated 24-hour framework for organizing healthy behaviors across a full day. The report describes an approach that addresses glucose management, individualized weight goals, and heart, kidney, and liver protection. John Buse and Melanie Davies chaired the report.
