Kenyan authorities confirmed the country’s first imported Ebola case on Tuesday after a Kenyan citizen who had been living in Congo died late Monday at Nairobi Hospital, Health Minister Aden Duale said. The patient arrived in Kenya on Saturday from Congo via Uganda, tested positive and was isolated and treated at the hospital. Kenya had never had an Ebola outbreak, according to the Kenya Medical Research Institute.

Authorities identified 28 contacts, including relatives and health workers, and are tracing 23 passengers who traveled on the same flight from Uganda. Health authorities have put border points on high alert and are monitoring for possible additional cases. The contacts will remain in isolation for 21 days and be released after testing negative, the ministry’s director, Patrick Amoth, said.
