Life Biosciences reported early results from an ongoing Phase 1 trial of an experimental cellular reprogramming therapy for glaucoma. Three people received a single injection, the company said. The trial’s main goal is to assess safety.

Eight weeks after treatment, two participants showed improvements in visual-field tests, according to Sharon Rosenzweig-Lipson, the company’s chief scientific officer. Researchers said they had seen no adverse effects attributed to the therapy, only effects related to the injection. STAT reported that the company said there had been no serious adverse events.

The therapy uses three factors to reprogram retinal ganglion cells, which transmit visual signals to the brain. Researchers said they plan to test a dose three times the initial dose to assess its safety and determine what dose might improve vision.
