Nigeria confirms imported Ebola case in Abuja after travel from Uganda
Nigeria is tracing 44 contacts after confirming an imported Ebola infection in Abuja in a woman who traveled from Uganda.

Nigeria has confirmed an imported Ebola infection in Abuja in a woman who had traveled from Uganda, the Health Ministry told NPR and STAT reported. The woman developed symptoms on Oct. 7 and sought care at a private facility on Oct. 11. NPR said she was diagnosed after admission, while STAT reported that her infection was confirmed after she sought care. STAT said she remains in isolation.
Authorities are tracing 44 people identified as contacts, NPR reported. STAT said the case makes Nigeria the fifth country to identify an infection linked to the outbreak centered in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Kenya has reported nine cases tied to an imported infection, according to the reports. NPR said Nigeria had already stepped up surveillance after Ebola was detected in Kenya and established a task force in June after the outbreak in Congo began in mid-May.
