American Diabetes Association releases review and apologizes for convention incident
The ADA apologized to three doctors who were removed from its 2026 Scientific Sessions and released its review of the incident.

The American Diabetes Association released the full report of its review of an incident at its 2026 Scientific Sessions in New Orleans on June 5. The association said its Audit and Governance Committee conducted dozens of interviews and reviewed written and video evidence. CEO Charles Henderson apologized to Maureen Gannon, Steven Kahn and Desmond Schatz for the circumstances that led to their removal. STAT reported that the association said a threat preceded the ejections, while acknowledging that its policies were unclear.
The ADA said it will involve its science and medicine community in setting priorities and qualifications for its next chief scientific and medical officer. Board chair James Tai resigned effective last week, and the board appointed chair-elect Sean Pittman to serve the remainder of Tai’s term. The association also announced changes to protocols.
