The reports say vaccination rates in Plain communities are lower overall than in the general population, though attitudes vary and some residents remain opposed to vaccines.

Pennsylvania has recorded over 1,350 measles cases this year, with more than a third in Lancaster County, according to state figures cited in the reports. The state has recorded three measles-associated deaths in Lancaster and two in other counties. Union Community Care said its clinics have provided about 450 measles shots to Plain communities and are offering infants vaccinations earlier than normally scheduled. Some doctors expect cases to rise as winter brings more indoor gatherings.
