Health ISAC warns hospitals after cyberattack on French blood service
The French blood service said a cyberattack raised cold-room temperature settings, but it detected the activity in time to rescue blood samples.

France’s national blood service said a supplier used in its cold rooms was targeted by malicious cyber activity. The BMJ reported that the attack raised temperature and defrost thresholds at three preparation or distribution sites to “very high levels.” NPR reported that the service detected the suspicious activity in time to rescue blood samples. The BMJ said the incident came amid refrigeration cyberattacks across more than 10 European countries.
Health ISAC issued a bulletin urging healthcare organizations to secure refrigeration controllers. U.S. agencies, including the FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, also published a fact sheet about threats to industrial refrigeration and cold-chain monitoring systems. Health ISAC recommended removing public internet access to refrigeration systems, separating them from standard networks and keeping offline backups. The FBI said it is tracking actors targeting these systems across critical infrastructure sectors globally.
