ArriVent BioPharma’s phase 3 trial of furmonertinib for lung cancer missed its primary endpoint, Fierce Biotech reported. The study tested the drug, an EGFR inhibitor, against chemotherapy. Fierce Biotech reported that ArriVent’s stock fell 57% in early trading on the Nasdaq.

At the highest dose, furmonertinib delayed tumor progression by a median 11 months, compared with 9.5 months for chemotherapy, a 1.5-month benefit that did not reach statistical significance, according to the results reported by BioPharma Dive. ArriVent also reported a trend toward a survival benefit and no new safety signals. BioPharma Dive said the drug was tested as a standalone treatment rather than in a combination regimen.
