Centene has launched a nationwide program that lets qualifying providers deliver certain outpatient services without waiting for the insurer’s prior approval, Healthcare Dive reported. The National Performance-Based Gold Card Program requires providers to submit a pre-notification before providing care.

The program initially covers only certain outpatient services. Centene expects to expand the services covered and the number of providers who qualify over time, according to Healthcare Dive. The outlet reported that gold card programs are intended to reduce administrative barriers and delays tied to prior authorization.
