The American Diabetes Association said Rita Kalyani is no longer its chief scientific and medical officer, effective immediately. The ADA did not give a reason in its announcement. STAT reported that the departure came as a review continued.

The ADA said Joshua Neumiller, its senior vice president of medical affairs, will take on expanded responsibilities while the organization searches for a permanent successor. He will provide continuity across its scientific and medical programs, including the Standards of Care in Diabetes and Scientific Sessions. The ADA said it plans to engage members of its science and medicine community during the search to help shape priorities and qualifications for the next chief scientific and medical officer.
