Hackensack Meridian Health and Hunterdon Health have signed an agreement for Hackensack Meridian to acquire Hunterdon. The deal still needs state regulatory approval and federal antitrust review, after both organizations’ boards approved it. The systems have not said when they expect it to close.

Hackensack Meridian plans to invest about $230 million to improve Hunterdon’s facilities and bring in Epic’s electronic health record, according to Healthcare Dive. Hunterdon would add its flagship 184-bed Hunterdon Medical Center, more than 3,000 employees, and a network of primary and specialty care practices. Fierce Healthcare reported the acquisition would add a nineteenth hospital to New Jersey’s largest health system. The reports did not give a potential timeline for the merger.
