Alcon has acquired Neurotech Pharmaceuticals, gaining Encelto, its therapy for macular telangiectasia type 2, Healio reported. Alcon paid $550 million, with possible contingent payments tied to commercial milestones, according to Healio and Endpoints News.

Encelto (revakinagene taroretcel-lwey) is an encapsulated cell therapy that received FDA approval in March 2025. Healio reported it is the only FDA-approved treatment for MacTel type 2.

Alcon said the acquisition will grow its retina offerings. CEO David Endicott said Alcon’s surgical retina experience and global reach could help speed commercialization and improve patient access. He also said Neurotech’s platform complements Alcon’s current capabilities.
