CDC deputy director and chief medical officer Jennifer Shuford will leave the agency on Nov. 12, a CDC spokesperson told NBC News. Shuford said in a statement that she was leaving to spend more time with her family. She was appointed to CDC leadership in April and began her dual roles in June, according to NBC News. Before joining the CDC, she was Texas’ chief state epidemiologist during the Covid pandemic and was appointed commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services in 2022.
