Congo Ebola outbreak tops 10,000 confirmed cases
Congo has recorded 10,060 confirmed cases, and nearly half of those confirmed to have the virus have died, according to the Ministry of Health.

Congo’s Ebola outbreak has reached 10,060 confirmed cases, and nearly half of those confirmed to have the virus have died, according to data from the country’s Ministry of Health. The outbreak, declared in May, is caused by the Bundibugyo virus, for which there is no approved vaccine or treatment, MedPage Today and ABC News reported.
Cases have been recorded in Kenya and Nigeria, and the disease has spread to 66 health zones across eight provinces in Congo, up from three when the outbreak was declared. About 80% of recorded cases are outside monitored contacts, according to the Africa CDC. African health ministers are scheduled to hold a virtual summit Wednesday to strengthen the regional response.
