Lilly says retatrutide outperformed Ozempic in type 2 diabetes trial
Retatrutide reduced HbA1c and weight more than Ozempic in topline trial results, but more participants stopped treatment because of adverse events.

Eli Lilly reported topline results from a phase 3 trial comparing retatrutide with Ozempic in 1,298 adults with type 2 diabetes. Participants received retatrutide 9 mg, retatrutide 12 mg, or Ozempic 2 mg for 80 weeks.
According to the results, both retatrutide groups had an average HbA1c reduction of 2.2 percentage points, compared with 1.8 percentage points for Ozempic. Weight declined by 19.5% with retatrutide 9 mg and 20.9% with 12 mg, compared with 9.4% with Ozempic.
The most common adverse events with retatrutide included diarrhea, nausea, constipation, vomiting and indigestion. Treatment was stopped because of adverse events by 4.8% of participants receiving 9 mg and 7.9% receiving 12 mg, compared with 2.7% receiving Ozempic. Lilly said full results will be presented at a future medical meeting and published in a peer-reviewed journal.
