The FDA issued an Early Alert after Medline notified customers that it is discontinuing and exiting the market for all Medline Brand beds and associated pendants, accessories, replacement parts and bed-containing order packages. Medline recommends removing the products from places where they are used or sold, or correcting them in some cases before continued use. The FDA said Medline sent an urgent field safety notice on October 14, 2026, and updated its recommendations on October 24, 2026.

The FDA said electrical components may overheat under certain conditions, leading to smoke, sparks, melting, burning or fire, with risks including electric shock and burns. Bed accessories, a user lying on a pendant, or loose or wobbly rails may also pose entrapment or asphyxiation risks. As of October 20, 2026, Medline had reported two deaths and 16 serious injuries associated with these issues. The FDA said it is reviewing information and will update the alert as new information becomes available.
