Silicon Practice, a provider of digital services for GP practices, went into administration, leaving patients unable to access some practice websites and online services, BBC News reported. The company served around 500 practices in England, just under 10% of the total, and services in Wales were also affected. Practices in London, Gloucestershire and Norfolk reported problems.

Affected patients are being advised to book appointments by phone, while the NHS app is working, the BBC reported. NHS England said it had contacted affected practices with advice on maintaining services and minimising disruption to patient care. GP leaders told The BMJ that questions must be asked about the lack of warning and the apparent lack of a coordinated national contingency plan for a provider failure.
