Roche and Zealand report phase 2 petrelintide weight-loss results
In the phase 2 trial, the 5 mg dose reduced mean body weight by 9.8% at 28 weeks, compared with 1.7% with placebo.

Roche and Zealand Pharma reported expanded phase 2 results for petrelintide, an investigational amylin drug for weight loss. The ZUPREME 1 trial included 485 patients with overweight or obesity who did not have type 2 diabetes, according to Healio. Results were presented at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes annual meeting and published in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology.
At 28 weeks, mean weight loss was 9.8% with the 5 mg dose, compared with 7.9% with the 1 mg and 2.5 mg doses, 9.3% with 7 mg, 9.4% with 9 mg and 1.7% with placebo, Healio reported. At 42 weeks, weight loss reached 10.7% with 5 mg and 1.7% with placebo in the efficacy analysis. Fierce Biotech reported a different analysis found weight reductions of up to 10.2% at 42 weeks, compared with 1.4% for placebo.
Nausea occurred in 20% of petrelintide participants and 6% of placebo participants, according to Healio. Fierce Biotech reported that Roche was scheduled to start three phase 3 studies of the drug, targeting people with obesity or overweight, including groups with type 2 diabetes or cardiovascular disease.
