Ferring agrees to acquire Gameto for up to $1.4 billion
Ferring’s acquisition would give it Gameto’s Fertilo technology, which Gameto says could shorten IVF cycles to as little as three days.
Ferring Pharmaceuticals has agreed to acquire fertility treatment startup Gameto in a deal BioPharma Dive described as potentially worth up to $1.4 billion. Endpoints News reported the companies told it the deal could be worth up to $1.3825 billion. Ferring did not disclose the upfront payment, BioPharma Dive reported, and payments are tied to development, regulatory and sales milestones. The companies will operate independently until the deal closes.
The acquisition would give Ferring Fertilo, Gameto’s technology that uses stem cell-derived ovarian support cells to grow eggs outside the body. Gameto says the approach could reduce the need for hormone injections and shorten IVF cycles and egg freezing to as little as three days. The treatment is cleared for use in Australia and some parts of Latin America, and Phase 3 testing is underway in the U.S., according to BioPharma Dive.
